Borno State University matriculates 1,416 students for 2020/2021 academic session

Borno State University (BOSU) on Thursday held its second matriculation ceremony for the 2020/2021 academic session.

During the occasion which took place at the university premises, about 1,416 students took oath as bonafide students of the university.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof.Umar kyari Sandabe, advised the students to imbibe the learning and reading culture, discipline and stride to excellence which the oath represents.

He recalled that the university recommenced academic activities during the 2019/2020 session with 32 program in four faculties, having 647 students in spite of the challenges of COVID-19 which has disrupted academic activities nation wide.

Prof. Sandabe said the university is trying its best to provide good learning environment to its students.

The VC also noted that contract has been awarded to furnish the two remaining faculty buildings, provide modern audiovisual materials, while two mega hostels with a capacity to accommodate 1008 students, while additional (2) ten room toilets have been provided.

“In a bid to further widen the horizon of the university, an MOU have been signed with UNIMAID and two foreign universities, while preparation is on to sign with UMTH and Borno state HMB” he said.

He also disclosed that approval has been obtained from the National University Commission (NUC) to establish the center for kanuri Ajami and Quranic studies, adding that the commission has revised the academic brief of the university thereby fast tracking the commencement of academic program in Engineering, Environmental Studies, Medical and Health sciences by next academic session.

Prof. Sandabe, on behalf of the university’s management, appreciated Governor Babagana Zulum, whose commitment to the ideals and objectives of the university is exalted.

He equally thanked Ministries of Higher Education and that of Finance as well as Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, staff on sabbatical and visiting as well as all supporting staff for their untiring support which propelled the university to its present state.

Highlight of the event include administering of oath allegiance, group photographs with the students.
