PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
The Universal Men’s Fellowship of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has pledged to empower no fewer than 50,000 youths with its training and scholarship programmes for the year 2022.
International chairman of the faith based evangelical group with headquarters in Calabar, Christ Shepherd Sylvester Eboigbe, made the disclosure on Thursday during a press briefing held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital..
Shepherd Eboigbe noted that the group has also devised scholarship schemes to support undergraduates as a way of discouraging many from tilting towards nocturnal activities.
“We are looking at empowering no fewer than 50,000 youths in technical, vocational and academics irrespective of faith or nativity.
“We started the empowerment exercise last year where 29 primary, secondary school and over 30 others were acquired technical skills”, he said.
He also reeled out their proposed activities for the 3-day annual retreat billed to take place in Port Harcourt next weekend.
According to him, “They hope that their local and foreign chapters shall converge and participate in the retreat in Port Harcourt where they will fine-tune arrangements for the social and human capital developments and also appraise themselves”.
He said the retreat in Rivers State will afford them opportunity to dissuade youths and politicians from criminal and violent activities and emphasise love and forgiveness amongst Nigerians as elections approach.
Spokesman of the organisation, The Patriarch, Edet Archibong harped on importance of peace, respect for individual beliefs and unity in Christendom.
He advised religious leaders against inciting their members against other faiths, saying Nigeria’s constitution allows for freedom of worship and association.
He particularly cautioned one Pastor David Ibiyomie of Salvation Ministry in Port Harcourt to refrain from campaign of calumny.
