Nigerian music powerhouses like Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Asake, and Ayra Starr have been nominated for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The awards ceremony is set for September 7 at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, and will air on CBS.
Nominations Highlights
– Nigerian artists grabbed *6 out of 7 spots* in the _Best Afrobeats_ category, with South African sensation Tyla being the only other nominee.
– Burna Boy got two nods: _“TaTaTa”_ ft. Travis Scott (_Best Afrobeats_) and _“Higher”_ (_Video for Good_).
– Asake earned two nominations for _“Active”_ with Travis Scott and _“Get It Right”_ with Tems, both in _Best Afrobeats_.
– Ayra Starr‘s _“Last Heartbreak Song”_ ft. Giveon got a nod for _Best Push Performance_.

– Lady Gaga leads all nominations with 12 nods.
– Bruno Mars has 11 nominations, boosted by his collab with Gaga.

The VMAs celebrate the best music videos with history-making performances and culture-defining moments.
