Cattle no longer graze on Nasarawa University campus – VC

Vice-Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Muhammed, says the constant grazing of cows led by Fulani herdsmen has so far ceased on the campus of the institution following series of meetings with leaders of Fulanis popularly called Ardos.

Prof. Muhammed expressed satisfaction with the combined efforts of the internal security and officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who usually shoot sporadically in the air not only to scare cows but create fear among the herders.

The NSUK VC spoke on Tuesday during a press conference which took place at the Senate Chambers of the university to herald activities leading to the 7th Convocation of the university.

He announced that two prominent personalities including the Chief of Staff to Present Muhamadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and Professor Holyst Brunon of the Management Academy of Applied Science, Poland will be honored with Honorary Doctorate Degrees ( Honoris Causa) for excelling in academic and fields of their chosen careers

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor also noted that a total of 5,984 graduates will be awarded various degrees.

He explained that out of the numbers, 33 students have gotten first class degrees while 1,598 obtained second class upper and 3,906 bagged second class lower degrees and 447 students have third class degrees.

Professor Muhammed further stated that about 1,677 post graduate students would be awarded certificates. A breakdown of the certificates according to him include – 134 students to get doctorate degrees (PhD) while over 2000 graduands will be awarded Masters Degrees and Post Graduate diplomas.

The Vice-Chancellor who was full of gratitude to the founding fathers of the enviable citadel of learning commended the visitor to the university, Engineer Abdullahi Sule who is the governor of Nasarawa State for his unwavering support to the growth of institution.

He specifically commended the leadership of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETHFUND) for providing adequate funds for interventions to build the new Senate building Complex and other infrastructures on the campus.

The Vice-Chancellor who used the occasion to showcase some of the achievements of his five years administration announced that through his efforts, the faculties of Medical Sciences and that of Environmental sciences will soon commence admission as all the infrastructure and manpower are already on ground awaiting approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Other achievements he said include the sustained partnership with corporate bodies and individuals which has resulted in the construction of many halls and offices.

He expressed satisfaction with the cordial working relationship with management, staff and students of the institution which has made him achieve much in his tenure and called for sustenance
