
Young people step up their fight against GBV during the COVID-19 crisis

As of July 8, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 from 55 African countries have reached 507,930.
Reported deaths in Africa have reached 11,977 and recoveries 244,815.
Yesterday alone, Nigeria recorded 503 new COVID-19 cases, with total infections from the virus rising to 29,879.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which made this known on its official twitter handle on Tuesday, said that as at July 7, a total of 503 new confirmed cases and 15 deaths were recorded across the country.
According to NCDC, to date, 29,879 cases have been confirmed while 12,108 cases have been discharged and 669 deaths have been recorded in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 503 new cases were reported from 20 states.
But South Africa has the most reported cases – 205,721, with deaths numbering 3,310. Other most-affected countries include Egypt (76,222 cases), Nigeria (29,286), Algeria (16,404), and Ghana 21,077).
The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
