PATRICK ABANG Calabar –

Cletus Obun a former lawmaker and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) has blamed the Cross River State Ministry of Health for criminal negligence over the plight of his wife who was allegedly suffering from Covid-19 .

Obun, said his wife who tested positive for COVID-19, was currently in a very critical condition.

Speaking with newsmen in Calabar, Obun said his wife, a laboratory scientist with the Infectious Disease Hospital in Calabar, contracted COVID-19 but has since been abandoned by health officials in the state.

He said, “My wife, Glory Obun has been abandoned by the Cross River State health authorities. She is a frontline worker at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Calabar.

“A medical lab scientist, she works in the (IDH) laboratory and that laboratory is the one that handles all COVID-19 tests in the state. On November 26, my wife felt unwell and suspected it was suspected to be COVID-19. She went to her colleagues for a test and came out positive, after which she reported to the head of the place.

“The first reaction of the hospital was to ask her to go to the teaching hospital to seek assistance. My wife was made to leave without considering the danger to the people she was going to meet there.

“One would have expected that she should have been immediately isolated and put up for treatment. She was abandoned and left to her faith”, Obu stated.

According to the former lawmaker, “Ayade aides have compromised all sectors, there is a hugged deficit of performance especially in the health sector”

” If she was tested positive what do protocol demand, she needed to be isolated”

“The criminal negligence by the ministry is what should worry every body”

” This clearly shows that COVID-19 has become a political weapon, my wife should not be exposed to this kind of treatment because she is a Frontline staff “

Obun stated that up till now , the IDH where she worked hard done nothing.

Reacting to the incident, Betta Edu, the State Commissioner for Health, said her Ministry is not aware that she contacted Covid-19 rather is what she called homorhage.
