Bishop Hassan Kuhkah
By ANKELI EMMANUEL, Sokoto-
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah, has appealed to Christians in Sokoto to remain law abiding and pray for the return of normalcy in the state.
Bishop Kukah made the appeal in his reaction to the current development in Sokoto, particularly the protests embarked upon by Muslim youth in the state capital on Saturday, leading to the attack on the Holy Family Catholic Cathedral at Bello Way, among other places.
The protests were said to be in support of the killing of a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, by her school mates, who accused her of blaspheming the Prophet of Islam.
The Bishop, who commended Governor Waziri Tambuwal and security forces for rising to the occasion to prevent a total breakdown of law and order, also directed that all Christian Masses in the Sokoto Metropolis should remain suspended.
