Defection: I’ve implicit faith in Nigerian judiciary – Ayade

PATRICK ABANG Calabar –

Ahead of today’s judgement by a Federal High Court in Abuja over his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade has expressed his belief in the Nigerian judiciary.

NATIONAL ACCORD had reported that Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday shifted the judgment on a suit by the PDP against Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and his deputy, Professor Ivara Esu.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo, who initially fixed March 25 to decide on the case, had now postponed the judgement in the suit until Wednesday, April 6.

He, however, fixed Thursday, April 7 for judgment after the counsels representing the parties in the suit addressed the court on the judgement of the Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal on the defection of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state.

Reacting to this in a statement issued in Calabar on Thursday and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Christian Ita, the governor said his faith in the judicial system to do what is right, fair and just is unwavering and beyond doubt.

“I believe in the judiciary, I believe today’s judgement will be fair, I believe that justice will not only be done but will be seen to have been done. Whatever the outcome I will accept but without prejudicing my right of appeal should it become imperative,” Ayade was quoted in the statement.
