In a move to boost administrative efficiency and operational capability, the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru, on Monday officially commissioned the newly completed Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters Annex located in Gudu District, Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Badaru described the new building as a significant milestone in the Air Force’s evolution and a reflection of its unwavering commitment to professionalism and national security.
> “This complex reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to operational excellence, strategic foresight and institutional consolidation,” the minister stated.
He praised the foresight and leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for transforming the initially abandoned structure into a modern administrative hub.
> “It is also in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises security, welfare, and infrastructure as foundations of national stability,” Badaru added.
He further urged NAF personnel who will occupy the facility to uphold discipline, patriotism, and responsibility in maintaining the edifice.
The four-storey building, originally intended to be a hotel, was acquired in its incomplete state and redesigned to suit NAF’s needs.
According to Air Marshal Abubakar, the facility was successfully remodeled and completed within one year, entirely by NAF engineers and technical staff.
> “The project speaks to our command philosophy of building a more agile and resilient Air Force through improved personnel welfare, infrastructure development, and prudent resource management,” he said.
Abubakar revealed that under his leadership, over 574 infrastructure projects have been initiated across various NAF bases, with 412 already completed and 162 still underway. These, he noted, are targeted at boosting morale and enhancing combat readiness.
Earlier in the programme, the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani, explained that the Gudu Annex was developed to reduce the congestion at the NAF headquarters in Garki, which has struggled to accommodate the Air Force’s expanding operational scope.
> “This building is more than just concrete and steel — it stands as a symbol of the Nigerian Air Force’s enduring dedication to excellence and selfless service to the nation,” Sani remarked.
The commissioning ceremony drew high-level attendance, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, senior military officials, former service chiefs, lawmakers, and other dignitaries.
