FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has linked the surge in infrastructure development across Abuja to the broader vision of President Bola Tinubu, describing the capital’s transformation as a direct reflection of the president’s leadership.
Speaking on Monday at the official flag-off of the Mohammed Isa Road Extension in the Asokoro District, Wike pushed back against those downplaying Tinubu’s impact.
“You cannot say FCT is working and Mr President is not working. It doesn’t make sense,” the minister said. “He is working through us. We carry out the directive; we carry out instructions; and we carry out the vision of Mr President, and one of the visions is that FCT must compete favourably with other cities of the world. That is what we are doing.”
Wike emphasized that the level of progress witnessed in Abuja today would have been impossible without Tinubu’s intervention, adding that earlier administrations had left critical projects untouched.
“If some of these things were done before now, the Tinubu administration would have moved on to address other needs,” he stated.
Reflecting on the pace of development, the minister noted that the FCT has experienced a visible transformation within the last two years and assured citizens that even greater changes are on the horizon.
He called on Nigerians to continue supporting the administration, underscoring President Tinubu’s focus on impactful, people-centered governance.
“Our development efforts are spread across all sectors—transport, roads, sports, education, and now health,” Wike said. “I assure you, no sector will be left untouched. All we need is just to be patient—and to be patient means to give us time.”
He also stressed the importance of funding to sustain these initiatives, urging residents to play their part by fulfilling tax obligations.
“All these good roads, good drainage systems, and the street lights wouldn’t be possible if you don’t pay taxes,” he said. “Try and pay your taxes so we can provide more of these roads, connect the drainages, and keep our environment clean.”
