Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as TJ in connection with the death of his wife, Queen, in the Auchi area of Etsako West Local Government Area.
According to community members, the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 30, shortly after the couple had reportedly celebrated their son’s second birthday.
A resident, who asked not to be named, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that there had been no visible signs of conflict prior to the unfortunate event.
> “There was no sign of a quarrel between them. We all went to bed that night, but by morning, neighbours didn’t see them come out and assumed they were still asleep,” the resident said.
“It was their little boy who later came out of the room with bloodstains on his body. When people saw the stains and realised he wasn’t injured, they rushed into the house and found the woman unresponsive.”
The man, TJ, was said to have left the area shortly after the incident, prompting neighbours to notify the police.
Officers from the Auchi Police Division reportedly launched an immediate search for the suspect.
The arrest was later confirmed by CSP Moses Yamu, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, in a statement issued in Benin on Sunday.
> “The suspect has been apprehended and moved to the State CID for proper investigation,” Yamu said.
He further assured the public that the case is being thoroughly investigated and that justice will be pursued.
The police did not release further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
