Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Desmond Elliot, has called on residents to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu led administration, assuring them of significant progress and better days ahead.
Speaking at the 10th Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting themed “ _Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda”_ on Thursday at Methodist Church Hall, Small London, Surulere, Lagos, Elliot highlighted the administration’s achievements across multiple sectors.
Elliot pointed to advancements in agriculture, infrastructure, health, and education, noting, “The government of the day is making a lot of progress as far as agricultural development is concerned, such as the creation of an agricultural hub in the state.”
He also praised improved foreign partnerships, stating, “Tinubu’s administration has streamlined processes for investors, fostering economic growth through enhanced foreign collaboration.”
Additionally, he emphasized the relative peace in the country, which he believes will attract further investment.
The lawmaker highlighted specific initiatives, including accessible scholarships for Nigerian students regardless of tribe or gender and the ongoing coastal road project, which he described as a catalyst for national development.
“The coastal road will facilitate significant progress once completed,” Elliot affirmed.
Addressing the importance of town hall meetings, Elliot said, “This town meeting is to showcase our achievements so far and address pressing societal issues.”
He acknowledged constituents’ concerns, particularly about power supply, assuring them, “The power issue is something the government is working on, and it will be addressed as soon as possible.”
Recognizing the economic challenges, Elliot recalled, “We were told to brace up because the journey to better living wouldn’t be easy, but we have started seeing improvement, and the suffering stage will soon be over.”
He also noted that the realization of the year’s budget signals positive economic indicators, stating, “The indices are working for us, and we will begin to see improvements as a people.”
Elliot urged residents to contribute to grassroots development and hold local government chairmen accountable for federal allocations.
“The Federal Government has done well by ensuring direct allocation to local governments. It is now the responsibility of the people to ask what is being done with these funds,” he said, emphasizing the need for collective effort in driving progress.
