DPR complies with Zulum’s directives as Govt filling stations receive 10 trucks of petrol

By SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri-

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has disclosed that ten trucks of petrol have been supplied and dispatched to various filling stations across Borno state, in a bid to address the fuel scarcity being experienced across the state.

The DPR North East Zonal Operations Controller, Alhaji Ibrahim Ciroma, who disclosed this to newsmen, attributed the scarcity in fuel to the dwindling supply of the product by the Petroleum marketers which triggered panic and fear among the motorists, hence within the last three days, only 14 trucks was delivered to Borno and Yobe.

Alhaji Ciroma further explained that lack of electricity supply in the state capital for over three weeks has further escalated the situation

However, the DPR Zonal Controller cautioned the Petroleum marketers against hoarding fuel as officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) would strictly monitor the filling stations.

Ciroma also assured the continuous supply of the Petroleum products to the state for sales at the approved government fuel pump price.

Meanwhile as our correspondent went round Maiduguri metropolis, 95% of the filling stations were either locked down or closed down by the owners, while only a few filling stations numbering about 7 were selling fuel to the motorists and riders before the intervention of the Governor.

With the Governor Zulum’s directive and compliance by the DPR, almost 20% of the filling stations are now selling fuel, with the anticipation that more filling stations would commence the sales of fuel, as DPR said there was no plan for any anticipated increase in fuel pump price.
