Muslims faithful on Saturday morning defied rain shower to converged at eid-el grounds across Maiduguri Metropolis, the Borno State capital to observe the Eid-el-Kabir congregational rakaats (prayers).
The Imam Idaini of Borno, Sheikh Imam Shettima Muhammad Saleh, led the two congregational rakaats (prayers) at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri.
Despite the absence of the State Governor Babagana Zulum and his Deputy, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, who are presently in Saudi Arabian for their 2022 Holy Pilgrimage, the former Borno State Governors, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Senator Kashim Shettima , Former Deputy Governor, Hon. Usman. Durkwa and Speaker , BOSHA, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan led dignitaries to the praying ground.
Others include the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Jidda Shuwa and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prof. Hussain Marte Isa led State Executive Council members, Members of Borno State House of Assembly, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, top government functionaries.
The Shehu of Borno, His Eminence, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El Kanemi led traditional council members comprising of Emirs, Chiefs, Ajiyas, Lawans, Bulamas and other traditional title holders among others
The two congregational rakaats prayers which was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Sheikh Imam Shettima Muhammad Saleh was observed peacefully under adequate security spread all over the praying ground and environs.
During his sallah sermon, he prayed for permanent peace to return to the state and country while commending the efforts and concern of the state governor, security agencies and vigilante groups for providing security to the people.
Sheikh Saleh stressed the significance of fasting on Mount Arafat Day and sacrifice of ram in Eid-el-Kabir Day as exampled set by the Messenger of God, Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW which he demonstrated by slaughtering his ram at the eid ground.
He further prayed for unity, stability, progress, bumper harvest after the planting season in the state and country at large.
The Iman appealed to the people to continue to be law abiding to constitutes authorities especially, during the electioneering campaign and elections period.
He also prayed Allah to continue to bless, guide and protect the leaders of the state as they rule the people.
