Ekiti Govt pays N8bn to access N16bn UBEC funding – Fayemi

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said his administration had spent N16bn to develop basic education in the state by building new schools, renovating others and building capacity of teachers.

Governor Fayemi added that his administration had to pay N8bn counterpart fund to enable it access N16bn.

He stated this on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, while receiving a delegation from Universal Basic Education Commission l(UBEC) ed by its Executive Secretary, Dr Hamid Bobboyi.

According to the governor, the state had recorded 40,000 and 25,000 increase in primary and secondary school enrollment respectively within the first two and a half years of his administration.

Governor Fayemi, who commended Bobboyi for the job being done by the commission, said that the intervention had been very helpful to the state in its giant strides in the area of basic education development.

He said, “In two and a half years, we have had a 40,000 increase in our primary school enrollment and 25,000 in secondary school enrollment.

“I know that e-learning is a major interest and we are one of the beneficiaries of those schools. I think it’s almost completed now. We’ve always been passionate about e-learning.”

On his part, The UBEC Executive Secretary, commended Governor Fayemi for investing in the educational sector, saying the state under his administration is prompt in the payment of counterpart funding.
