Enugu State Police Command has arrested 18-year old Ikediekpere Obodoagu for the alleged kidnapping and murder of his five-year-old second cousin, Wisdom Obodoagu.
The suspect’s accomplice, 24-year-old security guard Sunday Michael, was also detained, according to a statement released on Wednesday by police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe in Enugu.
Ndukwe revealed that operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad apprehended the suspects on August 11 and 12, 2025, following intelligence reports triggered by ransom demands.
The victim was reported missing on July 26, 2025.
“Investigations uncovered that Ikediekpere Obodoagu enlisted Sunday Michael to demand ₦1,000,000 from the victim’s father to mask his involvement,” Ndukwe explained.
When the ransom went unpaid, Obodoagu allegedly killed the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo-Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area.
“The suspects confessed to their roles in the crime during interrogation,” Ndukwe stated.
He added that Obodoagu led police to the burial site, where the child’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor who confirmed the death.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and vowed that the suspects would face prosecution upon completion of the investigation.
“The Enugu State Police Command remains resolute in combating heinous crimes and ensuring justice is served,” Giwa affirmed.
The investigation continues as the police prepare to arraign the suspects.
