Enyimba International FC is undergoing a major squad transformation, with Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme revealing that the release of 20 players from the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is a deliberate strategy to revitalize the team.
Speaking to journalists in Aba on Saturday, Ekwueme clarified that the mass exit was not triggered by internal conflicts but was a calculated step to restore Enyimba’s dominance.
“This isn’t about a crisis, as some fans might think. It’s a purposeful rebuilding process to reclaim our championship pedigree,” he stated, addressing concerns raised by supporters.
Ekwueme emphasized that the club’s management was unhappy with last season’s performance and is focused on assembling a stronger, more competitive squad.
“We’re not just losing players; we’re upgrading the team with hungry, committed professionals ready to fight for the Enyimba badge,” he said.
“As Nigeria’s biggest club, we are committed to upholding the highest standards.”
The club has already begun recruiting new talent to bolster the squad for the upcoming season.
“We’ve got several signings lined up, and we assure our supporters of a more formidable team ready to compete,” Ekwueme added, reaffirming the club’s dedication to its loyal fanbase.
