By EMMANUEL KUJE, Abuja –
Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has suspended its three-month strike, effective midnight on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The decision follows the intervention of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who directed that 10% of the Area Councils’ Internally Generated Revenue be used to clear three months’ salary arrears owed to workers.
According to a statement signed by NULGE FCT Chairman, Abdullahi Kabi, and Secretary, Andulmumini Sa’ad, the union’s State Executive Council meeting resolved to suspend the strike after exhaustive deliberations and appeals from the Minister, the FCT Traditional Council, and other stakeholders.
The union will collaborate with a Special Committee constituted by Wike to harmonize all outstanding arrears within two weeks, aiming for a holistic resolution through the National Assembly House Committee on FCT and ancillary matters.
NULGE expressed gratitude to Wike and stakeholders for their efforts in resolving the industrial action, emphasizing its commitment to sustaining industrial peace and harmony within the FCT.
Outstanding issues include ¹:
– 40% Peculiar Allowance from January 2023 to date
– 25% and 35% salary adjustments from June 2023
– N35,000 wage award for six months from August 2024 to date
– Unremitting pension deductions
– Promotion arrears and other outstanding entitlements
The union remains committed to engaging with Area Council Chairmen to resolve pending entitlements and looks forward to a swift resolution of all outstanding issues. NULGE has directed all members to resume work immediately from midnight on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
