Federal Ministry of Education has refuted baseless online rumors claiming that the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations were canceled due to widespread malpractice, urging the public to ignore such misleading reports.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press for the Ministry, the government clarified the status of ongoing examinations.
“The 2025 WAEC examinations were successfully completed, with only minimal, isolated cases of malpractice, all of which were swiftly handled by the relevant authorities,” Boriowo stated.
She added, “The ongoing NECO examinations are proceeding seamlessly, with no reported instances of malpractice as of now.”
Boriowo emphasized that no official reports from WAEC, NECO, or any examination body have indicated widespread malpractice.
She called on students, parents, school officials, and the public to disregard the circulating fake press release, describing it as “completely fabricated and designed to cause undue panic and confusion.”
The Ministry advised the public to rely solely on credible sources for information, including the official websites of the Federal Ministry of Education (www.education.gov.ng), WAEC (www.waecnigeria.org), and NECO (www.neco.gov.ng).
“We remain steadfast in ensuring the integrity and smooth conduct of all public examinations, working closely with examination bodies to enhance oversight and enforcement,” Boriowo affirmed.
She also warned that individuals spreading false information would be reported to security agencies for investigation and potential prosecution.
