FG urged to intensify security around schools

The Federal Government has been urged to provide adequate security around schools to check the incessant kidnapping of school children by bandits in the country.

The former Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma gave the advice today in an interview with newsmen at the 5th graduation and prize giving day of the Marhum International Academy, Keffi.

Professor Mainoma blamed the high level of insecurity in the country to lack of unemployment and injustice by those in position of authority.

She quoted the words of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as saying: “If you don’t take care of the children of the poor, they will not allow your children to sleep”.

Professor Mainoma, further, stressed the need for government to be just and fair to all irrespective of financial standing in the society.

In her welcome address, the Principal of the school, Dr Hauwaa’u Muhammad Mainoma stated that she established the school to give back to society what society has given to her and to propagate Islamic culture to students.

She expressed happiness that six years after the establishment of the school, students can now communicate effectively in Arabic, adding that the school which started with 23 pupuls and six staff has over 400 students and about 70 staff.

She called on members of the public to donate to the school in cash and infrastructure as the population of the school increases by the day.

Highlights of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of prizes to deserving students as mark of encouragement
