Fire guts COE in Cross River State

Fire has gutted the academic complex of SteadyFlow College Of Education Akparabong Community, Ikom LGA of Cross River State, destroying academic facilities worth millions of naira.

No one knows the cause of the fire, but speculations among the community residents is that the fire entered the school premises after a passerby mistakenly discarded a cigarette filter which he finished smoking in a nearby bush close to the perimeter fence which scaled through it and destroyed valuables and several school facilities.

Founder of SteadyFlow College of Education and one time National Assembly member representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency, Hon. Jones Tangban, who spoke in an emotion laden voice attributed the fire incident to indiscriminate bush burning

He called on National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to wade into the matter to so that the Institution can be re-opened again.

“We just thank God that no life was lost. We need state and federal government agencies (NEMA)to come to our aid because resumption is affected by the destruction of facilities at the college.

“Steady flow College of Education Academic complex had been engulfed by wild fire today so much had been destroyed”, he said.
