US President Donald Trump announced that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza war.
President Trump urged Hamas to accept the deal quickly, warning that conditions in the war-torn region could worsen if they refuse.
Trump made this announcement after a productive meeting with Israeli officials, stating that representatives from Qatar and Egypt will deliver the proposal to Hamas.
“I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this deal, because it won’t get better — it will only get worse,” Trump said.
This development comes ahead of Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House next Monday, where the Gaza war and other pressing issues, including a potential trade deal and Iran’s involvement, are expected to be discussed.
The US has been pushing for a ceasefire and hostage deal to end the war in Gaza, with over 150 international charities and aid groups calling for an end to a controversial Israeli and US-backed system for distributing aid in Gaza.
