A tragic road accident along the Gombe–Boliri Road has claimed the lives of six staff members of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Gombe, throwing the broadcast organisation and the state into mourning.
The fatal crash occurred as the NTA personnel were returning from the wedding ceremony of a colleague. Among those who lost their lives were Zarah Umar, the NTA Gombe News Manager and an aide to the wife of the Gombe State Governor, and Musa Tabra, a retired News Manager. Four other occupants of the vehicle survived the crash and are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The Nigerian Television Authority later confirmed the incident in an official condolence message issued by its Director General, Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, describing the accident as a devastating blow to the organisation.
“It is with profound sadness and deep sense of loss that the Management and entire staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) received the heartbreaking news of the tragic death of our dear colleagues from NTA Gombe in a fatal auto accident along the Gombe–Boliri Road, while returning from the wedding ceremony of a fellow staff member,” the statement read.
According to the Director General, the deceased were committed professionals whose service and dedication to the Authority and the nation would be deeply missed.
“This unfortunate incident is a big loss to the Authority of dedicated professionals whose commitment, camaraderie, and service to NTA and the nation will be sorely missed. Their passing under such painful circumstances is a great loss, not only to their immediate families and loved ones, but also to the NTA family as a whole,” Dembos stated.
On behalf of the NTA management and staff nationwide, the Director General extended condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues, and the Gombe station.
“On behalf of the Management and staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, I extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, the management and staff of NTA Gombe, and all who were affected by this tragedy. We share in your grief and sorrow during this very difficult time,” he said.
The statement also offered prayers for the departed and strength for those left behind. “We pray that Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, grants the departed eternal rest, forgives their shortcomings. May He also grant their families, colleagues, and friends the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
The tragic incident has continued to draw an outpouring of grief from colleagues, media professionals, and the public, as tributes pour in for the fallen broadcasters who lost their lives in the line of duty and service.
