Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has disbursed the sum of N50,000 each to 200 orphans from all the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor said the gesture was to assist the orphans with a little start-up capital to empower them as part of the newly introduced skill acquisition and self-reliance scheme for the orphans at a very early stage in life.
He also prayed and hoped that the government support and assistance will add value to the livelihoods of the orphans
The State Coordinator of the programme, who is also the Special Adviser to Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Kyari noted that this is the first time orphans in the state were supported in such a large number by the state government.
He said the gesture would further reduce the menace of street begging ,especially ,among orphans who have no guardians or breadwinners.
Kyari, however appealed to parents and guardians of the orphans to continue to cater and support them as well as to ensure the judicious use of the resources given to them.
