Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia is committed to the security of lives and property of the Benue people and would also ensure the return of the all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.
Addressing some journalists under the auspices of Federated Correspondents Chapel in his office in Makurdi, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media Publicity and Strategic Communications, Chief Solomon Iorpev, disclosed that Governor Alia was determined to address the security challenges of the state.
He informed that the residents of about five council wards in Gwer West have returned to their ancestral homes, while three that were yet to return to their areas were only being scared, explaining further that herdsmen were no longer in the area.
The technical adviser, however, frowned at the situation where people were exaggerating the crisis by giving unimaginable number of people killed by herdsmen in parts of the state.
Chief Iorpev urged journalists in the state to be objective and investigative and avoid all forms of sensational reportage as according to him such stories would create panic and instill fear in the people.
He admitted that even before Governor Alia came on board, there were communal clashes in the state but wondered why any disagreement with a neighbour would be exaggerated by some journalists.
According to him, things in Benue State were no longer as they were because of the commitment of the Governor, noting that everywhere in the state is a construction site. “There was nothing like this in the last eight years before Governor Alia came on board.”
Iorpev disclosed that the problem of the governor is his refusal to share money adding that they did not want him to change the narrative.
