Permanent Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, has reiterated the firm commitment of Governor Hyacinth Alia in restoring hope, dignity and livelihood to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in the state.
Speaking on Tuesday during the first distribution of food and non food items to the IDPs in Makurdi, the Permanent Secretary noted that Governor Alia has a lot of interest for the safety and livelihood of the IDPs.
“Since assuming office, His Excellency has demonstrated exceptional dedication to addressing the challenges faced by the vulnerable, and today is yet another testament to that vision”, he said.
The BSEMA boss emphasized the commendable steps taken by His Excellency such as the launch of the Benue State Action Plan for a Durable Solution for IDPs in Benue State.
“This comprehensive plan is not just about providing immediate relief but also about creating sustainable pathways for the safe return, reintegration, and empowerment of our displaced population”, he said.
Iorpuu also pointed out that the flag-off of the IDP farm project at Tyo-Mu, targeting six local government areas heavily affected by displacement was a giant leap in this direction.
“This farm project is not only aimed at addressing food security challenges but also aimed at equipping our IDPs with the means to rebuild their lives through agricultural productivity. By targeting six LGAs, Guma, Logo, Kwande, Agatu, Makurdi and Gwer West, this initiative will significantly contribute to economic recovery, skill development, and self-reliance among the IDPs.
“It is a beacon of hope for thousands of families and a demonstration of the state’s commitment to fostering resilience and sustainable development”, he said.
The Permanent Secretary said the distribution of food and non-food items was with a renewed sense of purpose and compassion as according to him the supplies were not just provisions but symbols of solidarity and reminders that no one was left behind in the rebuilding of our great state.
He appreciated the tireless efforts of staff of Benue-SEMA as well as the partners who have worked relentlessly to assist in one way or another for the well-being of the affected population.
The BSEMA boss appealed to all beneficiaries to ensure that the items were used judiciously even as he assured that he would remain committed to transparency and equity in the distribution process, ensuring that every deserving individual is reached.
He appreciated Governor Alia for his visionary leadership and untiring support for Benue-SEMA’s initiatives and as well appreciated international and local partners for their collaboration in supporting their humanitarian efforts and expressed the belief that together they would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the displaced persons in Benue State regain their dignity and a sense of normalcy.
Iorpuu acknowledged the support and commitment of the staff of the BSEMA who were involved in an accident during official duty and expressed the belief that they would soon be healed and accordingly discharged from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi where they were being attended to.
