A third kidnapping incident in just one week has rocked Okoloke community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving residents in fear and anxiety.
Four persons, including a respected community leader, Ezekiel Durojaiye, were abducted by gunmen on Tuesday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed Durojaiye’s residence in Okunran village, overpowered his family members, and whisked away four individuals into the bush.
This latest incident according to Channels report brings to eight the number of people kidnapped from the community in a week.
The community is still reeling from the abduction of Oba James Dada Ogunyamda, the traditional ruler of the village, who was kidnapped last Thursday. His kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N50 million, after initially asking for N100 million. The family has launched an appeal for help in raising the funds.
The Kogi State Police Command recently announced the rescue of three kidnapped victims during a coordinated raid on Ankomi Forest, but there is no update on the status of the latest victims.
The repeated attacks have raised concerns about the security situation in the state, with residents calling on the government to take urgent measures to address the menace of kidnapping.
