Humanitarian Minister distributes relief items to IDPs in Borno

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has flagged off the distribution of food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Amarwa and Madinatu IDPs Camps in Maiduguri during his two days State working visit to Maiduguri, Borno State.

Nentawe with his team from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and National commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) visited, NCFRMI Resettlement City in Amarwa Village, Jere LGA, Borno state and NCFRMI Renewed Hope Agric Farm for IDPs in Jere LGA, Borno to flag off distribution of relief materials and produce from our collaborative farming schemes.

During the project launch, the Minister shared President Tinubu’s warm greetings and prayers, acknowledging the country’s current economic challenges.

The Minister also announced the disbursement of N20,000 cash to 300 IDPs, who have been allocated 150 hectares of land to farm. This initiative has already yielded a successful harvest, and the Minister promised to review the land allocation and cash support to enhance the IDPs’ self-sufficiency.
He expressed optimism that the federal government’s agricultural support will increase next year, leading to a more bountiful harvest and improved economic prospects. Additionally, the Minister launched a food distribution program in Amarwa and Madinatu IDPs Camps, providing essential items to over 1000 households.

He also assured the people of Amarwa village housing estate city that federal government will soon reconstruct the 100 units of two bedroom and one bedroom housing estates built for the IDOs since 2017 but the insurgency disrupted the occupancy and destroyed parts of the estate which was at 70% completion and occupancy.

The Federal Commissioner of NCRMIDP, Dr. Tijani Ahmed, took the Minister and other officials on a tour of project sites and IDP camps. He emphasized the importance of their support, especially in the wake of the devastating effects of insurgency and flood disasters on infrastructure, homes, and farmlands.

Highlights of the two days events include the symbolic distribution of food items, disbursement of cash empowerment, inspection of NCRMIDP warehouse , farmlands and IDPs camps as well as group photograph.
