Former US Vice President, Kamala Harris
Former US Vice President, Kamala Harris has admitted she regrets not questioning President Joe Biden’s decision to seek a second term in the 2024 election.
“I think about it in the context of asking myself, was it grace to not bring it up to him, or was it reckless?” Harris said during an appearance on Good Morning America, as reported by ABC. “And I do reflect on that, feeling that there was some recklessness in not raising it.”
Harris ultimately took over Biden’s re-election campaign after he exited the race in July 2024, citing health issues that emerged following a poor debate performance against Donald Trump.
Her comments come just ahead of the release of her memoir, 107 Days, set to hit shelves on Wednesday. In the book, Harris offers candid reflections on her time in the White House and her relationship with Biden.
According to The Guardian, which reviewed the memoir last week, Harris accuses Biden of putting his own interests ahead of hers during her presidential campaign against Trump.
While she held back from openly criticising him during the campaign, the memoir reveals underlying tensions between the two.
She specifically took issue with Biden’s approach to reproductive rights, writing that his public messaging in 2022 did not reflect the urgency the moment demanded. Harris also suggested her contributions were only publicly acknowledged when the administration needed her support to reassure the electorate.
