The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, says his government is committed to expending the state’s commonwealth for the common good of people.
Makinde made the assertions on Tuesday, while playing host to members of the Iseyin Development Union (IDU) and other indigenes of Iseyin led by the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba AbdulGaniyy Adekunle.
The Aseyin-led group was in the governor’s office at the State Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, on a “Thank You Visit” to Makinde.
The governor said, even- development, through infrastruture, remains a priority to his government, adding that his vision was to spread out development to all zones across the state.
Makinde said that Iseyin occupied a pivotal position in the map of the state and called for the support of people of Iseyin in an efforts to fastrack development to the ancient town.
The governor hinted that his government would give special attention to the Ado-Awaye Suspended Lake, Ikere Gorge Dam and other projects that would attract investors to Iseyin and the state in general.
Earlier, the National President, IDU, Alhaji Bayo Raji, said the visit was to show appreciation to the governor for his benevolence and various monumental projects in Iseyin and Oke-Ogun areas generally.
Raji said: “Among the projects are the completed 65 kilometres Iseyin-Moniya Road that link Ibadan with Oke-Ogun.
“The location of the College of Agriculture and Renewable Resources, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
“The ongoing Iseyin-Oyo Road reconstruction and the construction of Iseyin- Ogbomoso Road that was recently flagged off.
“Also, the street light electrification at three strategic locations within Iseyin Town.
“All these are in addition to the completion of Saki major road, Saki Ogbooro-Igboho Road and the completion of various abandoned projects across the state.
“Indeed, we have never had it so good all these years in our area since independence.”
The IDU president said that the administration of Makinde
had exemplified quality leadership that displayed even-development across the state.
Raji declared that the governor had redirected the state policy, show-casing modern standard and serving as a model in leadership and governance.
He further requested for more projects to be carried out in Iseyin and OkeOgun zone in general.
According to him, the requests are to consider construction of the road leading to Ikere Gorge Dam.
He said that the Dam would be very relevant to the LAUTECH College of Agriculture and Renewable Energy Resources in so many ways.
Raji said that the fisheries and agriculture industry would be boosted, both for industrial and domestic activities.
“Ikere Gorge Dam, which has been abandoned since the 1980s can serve as a veritable economic hub for the state in particular and the nation in general.
“In addition, we want to appeal for speedy courses’ verification for the new programmes in the LAUTECH College, to enable it to admit new students into the 100 level of the new courses, among other requests,” he said.(NAN)
