[In Video] Edo Assembly gets new Speaker as Frank Okiye is impeached

There was a sudden change of leadership in the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday with the impeachment of Speaker Frank Okiye, according to report by The Conclave.

In his stead,  Hon. Marcus Onobun has been elected by members and sworn in.

Onobun is a member representing Esan West state constituency.

Okiye, also from Edo Centrsl (Esan-speaking area) was impeached by 9 out of 10 members of the Assembly.

They grounded his impeachment on alleged financial misappropriation, among other offences.

His removal followed a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Henry Okhurobo, that Okiye be removed over allegations of high-handedness.
