Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has stressed that Nigeria is better as one indivisible country, despite admitting that the very fabrics of the nation’s unity has been threatened unprecedentedly.
Tambuwal who spoke on Tuesday at the Sokoto Government House while receiving the Governing Board of National Youths Service Scheme (NYSC), appealed to all to be optimistic that Nigeria can still work and become great.
“Let us realize that Nigeria can work. So many countries doing well today have had their own challenges. Therefore, lets be optimistic that Nigeria will overcome its present challenges”.
Speaking on how important the NYSC is in promoting national unity, Governor Tambuwal admonished all Nigerians to work for its sustenance.
To ensure continuity in achieving National unity, Tambuwal urged parents to look beyond the security challenges of the moment and allow their children through the NYSC interface with each other.
“We must allow our children to visit other parts of the country to know the people of other region, interact with them, make friends and unite against forces of division”, Tambuwal advised.
While reechoing the fact that Sokoto is one State that has been consistent in its payment of monthly stipends of 5000 to corps members and 50,000 to those from the medical fields, Tambuwal also hinted that the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubabar 111 has been doing very well for Nigeria and the NYSC.
Speaking earlier, the NYSC Governing Council Chairperson, Hajiya Amb Fatima Bala Abubakar told Governor Tambuwal that they came to say a special thank you to the Sultan and people of the state for their hospitality.
Amb Fatima Bala, who commended Sokoto State Government for having a befitting NYSC orientation camp with adequate water supply and electricity, however appealed for immediate interventions in some of the facilities on camp.
Amongst the things she pleaded for intervention included – re-roofing of the multipurpose hall, provision of about 1500 plastic chairs, re-roofing of one of the hostels that houses about 300 corps members, expansion of the pavilion, construction of dinning area as well as replacement of the old ambulance in the camp.
“These are our request and I am pleading that despite the problem of funding across the federation, you kindly help us and see how best you can address them”. She said.
Those in the entourage of Amb Fatima Bala Abubakar include, the DG of NYSC, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, Hajiya Binta Muazu, Prince Oyekunke Oyewumi, South West, Yusuf Umar Nalado, Malam Muhtar Bello, Mr George Ikole and State Coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba and other members of the NYSC Borad.
