Borno State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, has commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its significant contributions to the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the state following over a decade of insurgency.
Kadafur gave the commendation while receiving the Minister of Regional Development, Engineer Abubakar Momoh, and the Managing Director of NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, during a courtesy visit to his office at the Government House, Maiduguri.
Speaking during the visit, the Deputy Governor noted that Borno, having been the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, suffered massive destruction of infrastructure and displacement of communities. He acknowledged that the NEDC has played a pivotal role in addressing these challenges through the provision of critical infrastructure and humanitarian services.
“The NEDC has lived up to the mandate for which it was established. Under the courageous and focused leadership of its Managing Director, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, the commission has remained responsive to our urgent needs, particularly in the areas of rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced communities,” Kadafur stated.

These resettlements, he said, have been accompanied by the provision of basic amenities and key infrastructure.
On behalf of Governor Zulum and the people of Borno State, Kadafur expressed appreciation to the Ministry for Regional Development, under whose supervision the NEDC operates. He also appealed for additional support in rebuilding critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and other facilities damaged by last year’s flood disaster in the state.
In his remarks, the Minister for Regional Development, Engineer Abubakar Momoh, said the purpose of the ministry’s visit was to assess the performance of the NEDC in Borno State, identify challenges, and explore areas requiring urgent intervention and improvement.
He praised Governor Zulum for his unwavering commitment to the development of the state and for providing maximum cooperation to the NEDC. The Minister assured that his ministry will continue to support the Borno State Government in its ongoing recovery and development initiative’s
