Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris
Barely 24 hours after formally defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledging support for Governor Nasir Idris’ second-term ambition, Almustapha Malami has been appointed as the General Manager of the Kebbi State Geographic Information System (KEBGIS).
Almustapha is the younger brother of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
The appointment was conveyed in an official letter signed by the Kebbi State Head of Service, Malami Shekare, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.
In the letter, the Head of Service congratulated Almustapha on his new role and charged him to approach the assignment with professionalism and dedication.
“The government expects you to bring your wealth of experience to bear in ensuring effective management of the state’s geographic information system for improved land administration and service delivery,” the letter stated.
He further urged the new General Manager to demonstrate “total commitment, diligence and dedication” in the discharge of his duties, in line with the policies and objectives of the Kebbi State Government.
According to the letter, the appointment takes immediate effect.
KEBGIS is a key agency of the Kebbi State Government, overseeing land administration, digital land records, and mapping processes, making the position of General Manager critical to efficient governance and development planning.
The timing of the appointment has sparked public discussion, with some observers interpreting it as politically motivated, while others view it as a recognition of loyalty and confidence in Almustapha’s capacity to deliver.
As of the time of filing this report, government officials have yet to issue an official response to the growing public commentary surrounding the appointment.
