Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo
By JOY ADARA, Abuja –
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on the aviation unions to shelve their planned strike over the Federal Government’s deduction of 50% of all internally generated revenue of aviation agencies.
Keyamo in a statement on Friday, acknowledged the unions’ concerns about the potential impact on investment, maintenance of critical infrastructure, and overall operations of the Agencies.
However, he urged the unions to consider the negative consequences of a strike on the industry and the country as a whole.
“We understand the unions’ concerns, but we appeal to them to consider the bigger picture. A strike will not only harm the industry, but also the passengers and the economy,” Keyamo said.
The Minister assured the unions that the Government is willing to engage in dialogue to find a lasting solution to the issue.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to improving the aviation sector and will give the unions’ demands due consideration.
Keyamo emphasized that the Government is committed to ensuring the continued viability and sustainability of the sector, while also maintaining the highest standards of service delivery.
The unions had threatened to embark on a strike over the revenue deductions, which they said would negatively impact the operations of the Agencies.
With this call, the Minister has appealed to the unions to reconsider their decision and engage in dialogue with the Government to find a peaceful resolution to the issues.
