Maiduguri Capital School wins 9th Edition of NILDS national quiz competition

Maiduguri Capital School emerged as the winner of the 9th edition of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) National Assembly quiz competition.
The competition, held at the Education Resource Center in Maiduguri, focused on legislature and democracy.
NILDS Director General, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman announced that the quiz is taking place across the country, with state-level competitions leading up to the zonal quiz competition on October 31, 2024.”
While the Grand Finale of the national quiz competition will take place on 11th November, 2024 at the NILDS Complex in Abuja.
The NILDS National Quiz Competition 2024 Coordinator, Mr. Traladıma Takwasa, said ,” On behalf of the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, National Assembly, Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, I welcome you all to the NILDS National Quiz competition on the legislature, democracy and governance.”
“The Director General, NILDS directed me to extend his heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Borno State over flooding that has caused immense devastation, displacement and loss.
“Please accept our deepest condolences. May you find strength, hope and comfort during this difficult period.
“As an initiative of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, the first edition of the competition held in 2016 with participating schools drawn strictly within the Federal Capital Territory.
“The competition continued to be an annual event in that format until the Institute’s Governing Council directed that the competition should be expanded to the length and breadth of the country.
“This was successfully done in the year 2022 in collaboration with all the states. This 9th edition of the competition is therefore the third time the competition is holding at the national level.
“The broad objective of the competition is to provide continued education on the legislature and broaden the knowledge of students and youths on the history, practice and procedure of the legislature and encourage deeper understanding of civic and democratic governance.
“The competition will also stimulate the interest of the young students in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and democracy.
“As I declare the 2024 NILDS National Quiz Competition open on behalf of the DG, NILDS, I urge all competing students and their teachers to abide by the rules of the game in the true spirit of sportsmanship to avoid interference so that the desired objectives of the competition are achieved,” Prof. Suleiman said.
In his remark, the Permanent Secretary, Borno State Ministry of Education Science Technology and Innovation represented by the Director of Higher Education , Hajiya Yagana Kyari Imam urged the participating schools to be attentive, serious and intelligent.
The Perm.Sec also enjoined the students to conduct themselves very well by complying with the established rules of the game while wishing them the good luck abd the best.
The Quiz Master, Ibrahim Idris announced that Borno State NILDS 2024 national quiz competition has five participating Schools, namely, Government College Maiduguri; Maiduguri Capital School; Maiduguri Innovative School; Government Girls College and Government Senior Science Secondary School, Biu selected to represent Borno State and the three Senatorial zones, Borno North, Borno South and Borno Central..
He added that as part of the guiding rules of the national quiz competition, three rounds of the competition have scheduled with five questions in each of the three rounds and each question carried 5 points.
At the end of the national quiz competition, Ibrahim said Maiduguri Capital School took the 1st position with the highest scores and Government College Maiduguri took 2nd position while Government Senior Science Secondary School Biu took 3rd position with the lowest scores
Highlights of the quiz competition Include: prizes, gifts and certificate presentations, group photographs among other.
