Former NNPCL MD, Mele Kyari
The National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Alhaji Yabagi Sani, has described the removal of Mele Kyari as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) by President Bola Tinubu as long overdue.
Sani, a former staff member of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), made this assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
“The removal of Mele Kyari as the GMD of NNPCL is long overdue. When the President removed the former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, many Nigerians applauded him, and we expected him to take similar action against Kyari due to NNPCL’s challenges,” Sani said.
He commended President Tinubu for removing fuel subsidy and floating the naira, saying, “The removal of fuel subsidy and the floatation of the naira are two decisions that will help the country’s economy.”
“If NNPCL must work, the shareholders should be allowed to decide who manages it, and the company should be quoted at the Nigerian Stock Exchange,” Sani added. According to him, this would ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the nation’s petroleum resources.
