Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of Area and Magistrate Courts building structures in the State, as it called for immediate intervention to address them.
Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary Barr. Esson Mairiga, made the call when management of Judicial Service Commission, High Court of Justice, Sharia Court of Appeal and Customary Court of Appeal, appeared before the committee for their 2025 budget assessment for first quarter today in Lafia.
Barr Mairiga, said for effective service delivery, court buildings must be conducive for judges to discharge their duties.
” The condition of structures of Area Courts and Magistrate Courts is pathetic, the environments are not conducive that will encourage judicial officers to give their best in terms of administration of justice.
” Some of the Area Courts and Magistrate Courts are operating in a rented apartments which is not good for the system,” he said.
He also pledged to support the judiciary to overcome its numerous challenges for effective service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the management of the Judiciary, the Executive Secretary Judicial Service Commission, Mr Yahaya Yakubu Shafa said the judiciary in the state is under going massive reforms for administration of justice.
He said that part of the reforms embarked upon included the creation of FIDA Court, revitalization of nearly collapsed Customary Court, creation of Small Claim Court, digitalization of the judicial activities among others.
Shafa appreciated the committee’s support for the judiciary and solicited for more, especially in the reform process.
The entourage of the Executive Secretary included Chief Registrar, High Court of Justice, Fatima Labaran, Chief Registrar, Customary Court of Appeal, Lawal Misa Hussaini and Chief Registrar Shariah Court of Appeal, Hadiza Aminu Abubakar.
