Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has clarified that the suspension of mining activities is not a total ban, but a pause on new licenses to verify authentic miners.
Governor Sule said the move aims to weed out illegal mining, which generates no revenue and fuels insecurity, including banditry and kidnappings.
The Governor, made this announcement Monday during the state executive council meeting in Lafia.
Governor Sule, who opined that suspension will not cut Nasarawa’s revenue, lamented Illegal miners have been aiding criminals, so making regulation was necessary.
The governor also briefed the council on new security measures, including a coordinated operation in Nasarawa Local Government.
He disclosed that a ₦19 billion monthly security fund for the North was approved by 19 governors to buy tech equipment and arm local vigilantes. The fund will be managed by Chief Ezekiel Gomos, the new Director-General of the Northern Governors’ Forum.
He said each Northern state will contribute ₦1 billion monthly for a year to the fund and ₦100 million for a new Secretariat in Kaduna, all geared towards a safer North, with streamlined governance.
