Crime suspect in police handcuff
Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of suspected kidnappers believed to be behind the abduction and tragic killing of Miss Favour Francis, a resident of Ombi Anzaku in Lafia Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Monday in Lafia, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure public safety.
According to Nansel, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Ambana village apprehended two suspects on Sunday, October 5, around 8:30 p.m., and handed them over to the police.
“The incident occurred on Friday, October 3, at about 10:00 p.m. but was not immediately reported to the authorities,” Nansel revealed.
Acting on the arrest, the state Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, ordered a swift investigation by the command’s tactical team. Their efforts led to the arrest of a third suspect in Angwan Nunku, also in Lafia.
“The suspect later took operatives to a location where a locally fabricated rifle, five live cartridges, and the knife allegedly used to stab the victim were hidden,” Nansel disclosed.
During interrogation, two of the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. The search for other members of the gang is still ongoing.
The police spokesperson added that Miss Favour Francis was rescued alive but sadly passed away while receiving treatment at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia.
Commending the prompt actions of both the vigilante group and the police team, Nansel urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by sharing credible information.
He assured that justice would be pursued and the remaining suspects brought to book.
