NASS leadership: Northern group endorses Onuoha for Deputy Speaker

A socio-cultural group, Arewa women Foundation, has endorsed the only women contesting for a position of principal officer of the 10th National Assembly, Mariam Onuoha for the deputy speaker of the federal house of representatives.

The women on Saturday made this call during the dinner held to celebrate Tinubu and Shettima victory at the 2023 general election.

The National coordinator of the foundation, Dr Nafisatu Sani, on behalf of the group said the women of Nigeria need to be put in the place of honour.

“On behalf of the Arewa women foundation, we write to formally endorsed you to contest and be voted for as the deputy speaker of the house representatives of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“Our endorsement is borned out of our quest to be part of the APC led government and as to benefit from the promise made by the APC regarding inclusiveness and gender equality during the electioneering campaign.

According to her, the Arewa women foundation supported and voted the APC massively in all the 19 northern states during the election.

“We congratulate the winners from the president elect to governors, members of National Assembly and states assembly men and women. 

“Having worked for your victory,  we are pleading with you to support the cause of women for political development.

The group described Onuoha as their preferred candidate for the position of deputy speaker based on the zoning formula as advised by the NWC of the APC. 

“We urging the president elect and members of the National assembly support her ambition to represent women in the 9th Assembly.
