Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta has destroyed a dump site used for illegal refining activities at Obotebe Community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Abdulazeez Zubairu, the site was uncovered by Navy personnel on Thursday and subsequently destroyed.
“The exercise was in line with Operation Delta Sanity 11, under the mandate and strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla,”* Zubairu said.
He explained that the destruction of the site was part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal oil refining, and pipeline vandalism.
The Navy recovered several items from the site, including a 1.5 HP Yamaha engine, a power generating set, six pumping machines, and two rolls of hose.
“The team proceeded to Obotebe Community, where they discovered a dump site used for illegal refining activities. The illegal refining site was immediately destroyed,” Zubairu added.
The Navy’s operation is part of its efforts to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s oil and gas infrastructure.
