The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup just got more intense as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the matchups for its playoff semifinals.
Scheduled to take place in Morocco between November 13 and 16, the fixtures will see Nigeria square off against Gabon, while Cameroon goes head-to-head with DR Congo.
The winners of these two ties will meet in a one-off final, with the ultimate champion moving on to the inter-confederation playoffs—where two more World Cup spots are up for grabs.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the semis in commanding fashion, thanks to a stellar hat-trick from Victor Osimhen during their 4-0 demolition of Benin Republic.
In a twist, Burkina Faso missed out despite amassing 21 points. A revised point system and the use of neutral venues—selected based on FIFA rankings—were introduced to ensure a level playing field throughout the playoffs.
