A fire outbreak at the Abuja headquarters of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) was swiftly brought under control on Saturday, with authorities confirming that no life was lost in the incident.
The blaze, which broke out on the fourth floor of the FIRS building, triggered an immediate response from security personnel on duty, preventing the situation from escalating.
Their quick action was reinforced by the timely intervention of the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service and other emergency responders, who successfully contained the fire and stopped it from spreading to other parts of the complex.
Confirming the incident in a statement, Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, expressed relief over the outcome.
“We are grateful to report that no lives were lost in the incident,” he said.
While the fire caused damage to several offices on the affected floor, officials said normal safety procedures helped limit the extent of the destruction. Akinola noted that investigations have already begun to determine the exact cause of the outbreak. “An investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced, with preliminary assessments pointing to a possible electrical fault,” he explained.
He added that the agency is taking proactive steps to prevent a recurrence. “In the meantime, all internal safety protocols are being thoroughly reviewed and strengthened to mitigate against future occurrences,” Akinola said.
