No sector can impact on Nigeria’s economy more than education – Obong of Calabar Executive Forum

The Chairman of the Obong of Calabar Executive Forum (OCEF), Chief Gershom Henshaw, has expressed concern that the recent strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian University (ASUU) had Impacted negatively on the Nigeria’s economy.

Chief Henshaw said at a time all other nations of the World are forging ahead for knowledge driving economy, Nigeria is consciously uprooting education and enthroning mediocrity.

According to him, even the holy books confirmed that people perish for lack of knowledge.

He disclosed this at Adiabo Tinapa at the 11th Utomo Obong Festival to mark the reigns of The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi V.

In his remarks, Architect Bassey Ndem, a member of Etubom Council said the meeting of all Efiks nation all over the world, provided opportunity for the various community in Cross River State to come together.

He said the Obong in his 11 year’s reign had done so well by bringing peace to Efik land.

Also, The President, Ohaneze Ndigbo in Cross River, High Chief Felix Odoemene, paid special tribute to the Obong of Calabar, saying the monarch has unified all tribes within his jurisdiction.

Another prominent Igbo son, Sir Chukwemeka Egwuonwu, said, “the Igbos, other tribes, and indeed all Cross Riverians are today celebrating the epitome of peace and unity, The Obong of Calabar.

“The Obong is a man God has used to bring maximum peace in Cross River among various tribes here. He is a man who does not discriminate, and we pray that this peace shall remain as we go into an election and even forever,” he stated.
