By CHRISTIANA LOT, Jos –
The Northern Minority Alliance for Balanced Leadership (NOMAL) has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu, commending the administration’s initiatives in the Tax Reform Bills.
The group urged the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the bills, citing their importance in strengthening fiscal stability and fostering economic revitalization.
In a communiqué issued on Thursday after a two-day retreat held in Jos, Plateau State, the group emphasized that the reforms would help close revenue gaps, promote a business-friendly environment, and advance Nigeria’s economic recovery efforts.
The communiqué, signed by leaders including Ibrahim Bunu, Yusufu Daniel, Donatus Adamu, Jonah Bonet, and others, also reaffirmed NOMAL’s support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The communiqué reads in part, “The Northern Minority Alliance for Balanced Leadership (NOMAL) is a coalition representing ethnic minorities from the Northern States of Nigeria. The group is vested with the responsibility of uniting minorities and minority interests in Nigeria, and pursuing inclusiveness, balanced leadership, and national development.
“We held our Inaugural Meeting and Retreat in Jos, Plateau State, from 15-16 January 2025. The retreat was attended by leaders and representatives of various groups and interests from the 19 northern States and the FCT. After two days of extensive deliberations, we arrived at the following resolutions: we, the minority ethnic groups, form the majority in northern Nigeria and going forward, we will tell our story ourselves, and not allow other groups to shape our narrative for their own interests.
“We commend President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which has been pivotal in repositioning Nigeria as a prime global investment destination. The administration’s emphasis on democracy, development, demographics, and diaspora engagement has brought tangible economic and diplomatic gains that are fostering national growth, stability, and inclusion.
“We applaud the administration’s proposed tax reforms aimed at streamlining tax processes, closing revenue gaps, and fostering a business-friendly environment. These bills, currently before the National Assembly, represent a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic recovery efforts. We urge the legislature to expedite their passage to strengthen fiscal stability and economic revitalization.”
The group also acknowledged the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, particularly in providing Northern minorities with a seat at the policymaking table. The communiqué expressed gratitude for the appointments of qualified individuals from these communities, noting that these decisions marked a significant departure from the historical marginalization they had experienced under previous administrations.
“President Tinubu’s leadership has been exemplary in promoting unity and bridging ethnic and regional divides. His administration reflects a genuine commitment to fostering a united Nigeria, where every citizen feels seen, heard, and represented. This approach is critical to maintaining peace and stability in our diverse nation…
“After reviewing President Tinubu’s achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we, as patriotic stakeholders, unequivocally affirm our unwavering support for his administration’s vision and programs. We also pledge our backing for his re-election in 2027, should he decide to contest. His leadership represents a departure from the politics of exclusion and entitlement that have stifled Northern minorities for decades.”
