Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken a decisive step to reinforce discipline within its ranks, dismissing an Assistant Commandant General (ACG) alongside 37 other senior officers over various acts of misconduct.
The dismissals, carried out in line with the Public Service Rules (PSR), followed findings of gross misconduct, insubordination and behaviour deemed unbecoming of senior officers of the Corps.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, noting that the sanctions were part of a wider disciplinary exercise undertaken in 2025.
According to Afolabi, a total of 76 officers — both senior and junior personnel — were sanctioned during the period for offences ranging from gross misconduct and insubordination to job racketeering, extortion and other acts considered harmful to the Corps’ core values and operational ethics.
He quoted the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Audi, as explaining that the disciplinary actions were based on recommendations from the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), as well as the Corps’ Senior and Junior Staff Disciplinary Committees.
Out of the affected senior officers, 38 were dismissed outright, while two others were demoted by two ranks. One senior officer was demoted by one rank with loss of seniority, and five officers were issued formal warning letters.
The statement further revealed that the NSCDC Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee handled 30 cases involving serious offences such as job racketeering, extortion, aiding and abetting illegal petroleum dealings, fraud, gun running and prolonged absence without official leave.
Professor Audi reiterated the Corps’ zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline, stressing that no officer, regardless of rank, would be shielded from accountability if found wanting in the discharge of duty.
