The Ministry of Education has entered into partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Cross River State Council to fished out fake teachers.
The State Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, dropped the hint in Calabar in his office when the Chairman of the NUJ and Exco members, led by Archibong Bassey ,paid him a courtesy visit .
According to the Commissioner, some teachers were paying money to be made School Principals while some teachers are with fake certificate.
“The fight against fake teachers started when he was Chairman of the State Primary Education Board where over 1,572 teachers were dismissed.
“In my interactions with the Governor I told him to give me two years to sanitize the system”
Odey also said he recently debunked a publications that since 2018 Cross River State Government has not employed teachers.
“We employed teachers in when I was ….2015 and right now, I have written to the governor for approval to employ 6000 teachers and that report is not correct”, he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of NUJ Cross River State Council said the Council had been following the Commissioner activities with keen interest.
She promised to collaborate with the ministry of education in its efforts to fished out fake teachers in the education sector.
