The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Sokoto State has embarked on a three-day free medical outreach in some rural communities in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the State Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Muhammadu Nakamba, inaugurated the Phase II 2021 Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers in Kware Local Government Area on Monday.
Nakamba said the team comprised corps doctors, pharmacists, nurses, laboratory scientists and other auxiliary health practitioners.
He said they would provide treatment and administer drugs freely to residents.
He said that at least 200 residents benefited from the Phase 1 of the programme and urged the benefiting communities to take advantage of the programme to get free medicare.
Nakamba commended the stakeholders for their contributions toward the success of the programme in the state.
”The initiative underscores the readiness of the scheme to mobilise youth corps medical doctors and other specialists for the benefit of their host communities,” Nakamba said.
The District Head of Kware, Alhaji Muhammad Daniya, thanked NYSC for initiating the exercise for people at the grassroots.
Daniya, represented by Dangaladiman Kware, Alhaji Ahmad Balarabe, described the exercise as distinct and beneficial to the people, especially the less privileged.
He urged the people in the communities to present themselves for medical examination and treatment in their own interest.
He commended the corps doctors and other members of the team for their selfless service to mankind and charged them not to relent.
According to him, the programme is coming at the right time because patients planning to visit hospitals would be given free medical care.
