ormer PDP National Deputy Chairman and Military Governor of old Ondo State, Chief Olabode George, has paid tribute to the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, describing his passing as a huge loss.
Oba Adetona, who reigned for over six decades, passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.
A Legacy of Dignity and Class
In a statement on Monday in Lagos, George reflected on Oba Adetona’s remarkable life and reign.
“From his coronation in 1960 to his passing on July 13, 2025, Oba Adetona displayed humility, flamboyance, and dignity,” George said.
“He was a father figure to me, a formidable leader, and a traditional ruler who protected the name of the Ijebus and projected their image.”
George praised Oba Adetona’s creativity and dynamism, citing the annual Ojude-Oba event as a testament to his enduring legacy.
“The Ojude-Oba event became a reference point for others, thanks to Oba Adetona’s connections and vision,” George added.
The PDP chieftain prayed for God to grant Oba Adetona eternal repose and comfort his family and the Ijebu people worldwide.
“We have to thank God that Oba Adetona reigned for six and a half decades,” George said, as he reflected on the late monarch’s remarkable life and legacy.
